Sunny People: Meet Hakan, Our DCS Team Leader

We are excited to launch a brand new series titled Sunny People. In this series, we go behind the scenes at SunExpress Airlines to introduce you to the dedicated colleagues who make our operations fly. Our very first guest is Hakan, a professional known for solving complex problems and ensuring every journey starts on the right note.
Who is Hakan?
Born in 1984 in Aksaray and raised in Muğla, Hakan brings a diverse background to our team. He graduated from the Computer Programming Department at Mersin University before pursuing further studies in International Relations at Anadolu University.
Hakan joined the SunExpress team 13 years ago and currently leads our DCS Team. Outside of his professional life, he is a dedicated husband and a father of two kids, as well as a proud owner of a cat. A true music lover, his favorite song is Dörde Özlem by the legendary Turkish band Moğollar. We highly recommend giving it a listen while you read his story.
Q: Could you explain what DCS is and its importance in airline operations?
Hakan: DCS (Departure Control System) is one of the most vital components of airline operations. It is the system responsible for everything that happens before a flight takes off, including passenger lists, seat assignments, baggage tracking, and balancing the aircraft weight. However, DCS does not work in isolation. It is a system that relies heavily on seamless teamwork with other departments to ensure our flights are safe, smooth, and punctual.
Q: What has been your most adventurous or meaningful day at SunExpress so far?
Hakan: The most unforgettable moments for me occurred during the rescue flights we organized following the earthquake on February 6th. Being part of the team managing these critical operations was one of the most challenging and deeply meaningful experiences of my career. While coordinating with ground handling companies, witnessing the pain and loss of those we knew was heart wrenching. Despite the emotional weight, our team worked with incredible speed and efficiency to fulfill our duties. Those moments truly highlighted the importance of solidarity and humanity in our work.
Q: What does #LifeAtSunExpress mean to you?
Hakan: Here, I feel like a valued individual rather than just another employee. SunExpress genuinely cares about the growth and happiness of its people. The strong team spirit, the supportive environment, and the dynamic nature of the aviation industry keep me motivated every single day. I am incredibly proud to be part of this family.
